Pro-Coop, Pro Peace

Vote “NO” at the March 27 General Meeting
 Be Pro-Coop
  • Respect the right of all members to determine their political views and choose what products to buy. This referendum tries to impose a single political view upon the entire membership and removes choice.
  • Recognize that there are differences of opinion on BDS. Previous political boycotts had no essential opposing faction. This referendum is creating extreme discord inside the coop.
  • Support a Coop that is welcoming to all. This proposed referendum is creating a contentious atmosphere.
  • Value the Coop’s good name and reputation. The referendum will bring opprobrium to the Coop, and all activities endorsed and affiliated with the Coop. We will be tainted with the associations and alignments of the BDS Movement.
  • Reject the idea that selling goods from a country such as, China, Israel, or Turkey, implies agreement with all the policies of these regimes.
  • Preserve the Coop's independence.  Joining the BDS movement means surrendering a certain amount of control to an outside entity that has no interest in the success of the Coop.
  • Protect the Coop.  Joining the BDS movement could possibly subject the Coop to legal ramifications.

Be Pro-Peace
  • Support cooperative efforts to normalize relations between Israelis and Palestinians. These are the efforts that lay the foundation stones of peace,. The BDS Movement's leadership opposes all joint activities with Israelis.
  • Support equitable negotiations between both peoples that provides mutual recognition of (1) both people’s nationalist aspirations and identities, and historic ties to the land and (2) the legitimate security concerns of both peoples.
  • Call for the neighboring Arab countries to respect the basic human rights and dignity of their populations, including the Arab refugees who fled Israel.
  • Recognize that Israel alone is not responsible for the conflict. and pressure on Israel alone will not fix it.
  • Acknowledge that the continued Arab opposition to compromise and Arab intransigence perpetuates the conflict.
  • Respect the rights of ALL peoples to self-determination.
